Recently, we had the honor of welcoming Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo to the Women’s Cancer Center of Nevada. Following a talk at the UNLV School of Medicine, Governor Lombardo took time from his incredibly packed schedule to visit our center—not for cameras or press, but simply to extend heartfelt wishes to our patients undergoing chemotherapy.
There were no formalities, just a few quiet minutes spent with patients and staff. But those few words, offered in genuine kindness, meant a great deal to our patients—many of whom were surprised and deeply moved by the Governor’s compassion.
It has been my privilege to serve as President of the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners under Governor Lombardo’s administration, and I can attest firsthand to his sincere efforts to improve healthcare across our state.
GOVERNOR LOMBARDO IS WORKING DILIGENTLY TO:
Make the physician licensing process more efficient—the average time to be licensed in Nevada is now under 40 days.
Reform pre-authorization systems that often disadvantage both patients and doctors.
Expand access to Medicaid providers, ensuring more doctors can care for those in need.
Build a true academic medical center in Las Vegas, a project that deserves bipartisan support.
I personally believe that State Treasurer Zach Conine recognizes the importance of this goal and will work across party lines to help make it a reality.
As a lighthearted side note—those who are pet lovers may agree that dogs have an uncanny sense for reading people. My own pup, Lore’s Vegas Golden Knight (“Prince”), who is in training to become a service dog, cozied right up to the Governor during the visit. I trust his instincts!
We encourage everyone to write their Assemblymembers and State Senators to support Governor Lombardo’s efforts to fund a world-class academic medical center in Las Vegas.
Below are a few photos from that memorable day—though I’ll admit, as the photographer, I might have gotten a little too enthusiastic and accidentally covered the lens in one!
Let’s continue working together toward a better future for healthcare in Nevada.
